MAC Midweek Matchups: Ball State vs Toledo Highlights Week’s Games
ESPN Networks Televising 2 games Both Tuesday and Wednesday

The Mid-American Conference is back with another week of MAC midweek matchups, which have become a favorite of football bettors. People aren’t going to watch a Tuesday night game between two mediocre teams unless they have something riding on the outcome. The MAC is happy to oblige, getting more exposure for their teams, not to mention some nice TV money.
The college football spreads say most of the games this week are toss-ups. Four of the six MAC midweek matchups have spreads with less than 3 points. The game with the biggest line happens to be the most meaningful in the standings, with Ball State visiting Toledo. But there are several other meaningful games this week.
The Ohio Bobcats need a win to keep pace with Buffalo and Bowling Green in the East. Akron is searching for its first conference victory of the season, while Eastern Michigan is one win from becoming bowl eligible.
Game of the Week
Ball State Cardinals vs Toledo Rockets
Date & Time & Streaming: Tuesday, Nov. 8, 8 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Line: Toledo -11.5
Of all the MAC midweek matchups, this one has the most meaning in the standings. But it’s also the game with the highest spread, with the Rockets favored by 11.5 points.
NCAAF scores show the Cardinals averaging 24.8 points against teams that allow 30.6 points.
Toledo (6-3, 4-1) has already wrapped-up a bowl berth but is thinking conference title. The Toledo Rockets can score, averaging 35.9 points against teams allowing 29.8. But stopping teams hasn’t been a strong suit this year, allowing 26.9 points to teams averaging 24.8.
Other Games to Watch
Ohio Bobcats vs Miami (OH) Redhawks
Date & Time & Streaming: Tuesday, Nov. 8, 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN2)
Line: Ohio -1
Of the other MAC midweek matchups this one is the most intriguing, with Ohio (6-3, 4-1) visiting Miami (4-5, 2-3). The Bobcats are 5-0 at home this season but just 1-3 on the road. The Redhawks are 2-1 at home for the year.
Ohio is your prototype MAC team in that the Bobcats score a lot of points and surrender plenty as well. But it works, as Ohio has won four straight and covered five games in a row. The Bobcats average 33.4 points and allow 33.2.
Miami (OH) doesn’t allow many points but they score less. The Redhawks are averaging 19.4 points and allowing 21.4. Their foes have only averaged 22.5 points so the defense may not be as good as the numbers look.
Buffalo Bulls vs Central Michigan Chippewas
Date & Time & Streaming: Wednesday, Nov. 9, 7 p.m. ET (ESPN2)
Line: Buffalo -2
The best of the Wednesday MAC midweek matchups, Buffalo (5-4, 4-1) visits Buffalo Bulls dropped their first conference game last time out, falling to Ohio 45-24. It was the most points Buffalo has allowed all season.
CMU comes in off its second conference victory, winning at Bowling Green 35-22. In their two conference wins, the Chippewas have rushed for 199 and 246 yards. The Bulls allow 5.0 yards per carry.
Northern Illinois Huskies vs Western Michigan Broncos
Date & Time & Streaming: Wednesday, Nov. 9, 7 p.m. ET (ESPNU)
Line: Western Michigan -1
Not for the faint of heart, Western Michigan (3-6, 2-3) and the storyline is NIU trying to avoid sole possession of last place in the West. Not exactly a glowing recommendation but the game is televised and will attract some bets.
The Huskies may be a little better than their numbers suggest, especially on offense. NIU averages 29.8 points against teams allowing 30, so its pretty average. Defensively, the Huskies allow 33.2 points to teams averaging 28.3, so there’s work to be done.
The Broncos may not be the team to exploit the NIU defense, as WMU averages 19.4 points against teams allowing 28.4. The defense is a little better, giving up 26.8 points, which is 2.7 more points than their opponents average.
