Western Michigan Broncos – NCAAF History
The Western Michigan Broncos are a Division 1 FBS Football team based in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Founded in 1906, Western Michigan has an overall record of 588–466–24. Originally called the Hilltoppers, the school changed its name to Broncos in 1939 to avoid confusion with Marquette University and Western Kentucky University, both of which used the Hilltoppers moniker at that time.
As member of the Mid-American Conference since 1948, Western Michigan stats had been mostly mediocre throughout the years until the program started to flourish in the late 1980s, with an appearance in the 1988 Quick Lane Bowl over Nevada.
