Rayo Vallecano de Madrid was founded in 1924 and didn’t reach the third division ofAtletico Madrid to be Atleti’s feeder club. Despite the agreement only lasting one season, the kit never changed.
An important moment in the Rayo Vallecano stats was earning promotion to the second division in 1956. The 1976-77 season was another historic one for Rayo Vallecano. They went undefeated at home in the second division and earned promotion to La Liga for the first time ever.
Their debut season in the first division ended with a surprise tenth place finish, against the La Liga odds. In 1982, Rayo Vallecano achieved their best-ever result in the Copa Del Rey, with a semifinals appearance. However, Rayo frequently bounced around between La Liga and the Segunda Division in the 80s and 90s.
In 1999-2000, Rayo Vallecano managed to qualify for their first-ever Club Alaves.
Unfortunately, Rayo were playing in the third division by 2004. They returned to La Liga in 2011 but spent the rest of the decade yo-yoing between divisions. Another significant moment in the Rayo Vallecano stats is winning their first second division title in 2018. However, they were relegated after just one La Liga season.
Under Andoni Iraola, Rayo earned promotion to La Liga again in 2021. In 2022, Rayo Vallecano reached their second-ever Copa Del Rey semifinal and finished 12th in the league.
