Croatian soccer player Andrija Mutafelija and a few friends founded Gradanski in 1911. With Croatia still part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the club was founded with an unmistakable Croatian identity.
In 1923, Gradanski won their first Yugoslav First League title. They also toured Spain in 1923 and defeated teams like Croatia League.
After the war, the communist ruling authorities disbanded the club in retribution for competing in the Nazi-sponsored league. A successor team, called FD Dinamo was created just three days later. Many of Gradanski’s former players made the switch over to Dinamo. The first Yugoslav championship in the Dinamo Zagreb stats came in 1947-48.
They finished as league runners-up in 1950-51 but won their first ever Yugoslav Cup during the same season. Dinamo first played in European competition in the 1958-59 European Cup but were eliminated in the first round. The first European final in the GNK Dinamo Zagreb stats was a 1962–63 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup final appearance. They lost 4-1 to Valencia on aggregate, but returned to the final in the 1966-67 season.
This time around, Dinamo Zagreb defeated Leeds United 2-0 on aggregate to seal their first European trophy. However, Dinamo later went on a trophy drought and failed to win any domestic or European competition in the 1970s.
Dinamo won the Yugoslav Cup in 1980 to end their drought, and won their ninth and final Yugoslav First League title in 1982. In 1992, after the dissolution of Yugoslavia, they became founding of the Prva HNL. Dinamo Zagreb are the most successful Croatian club, with 23 Prva HNL championships and 16 Croatian Cup titles. From 2006 to 2016, they won the Prva HNL 11 consecutive times.
When they compete, betting on Dinamo Zagreb’s Europa League odds is popular. They’ve advanced from the group stage in their last three Europa League appearances. Betting advice recommends considering Dinamo as a pick in the Croatian League. As of 2022, they’ve won five consecutive titles.
