Originally a gymnastics club, TSG Hoffenheim was formed by a merger of Turnverein Hoffenheim and Fußballverein Hoffenheim in 1945. The club languished in the lower leagues for the remainder of the 20th century. At the start of the 90s, Hoffenheim were in the eighth-tier amateur league.
By 1996, Hoffenheim were steadily climbing up the German soccer ladder and managed to reach the fifth tier. In 2000 Dietmar Hopp bought a large stake in his boyhood club, accelerating Hoffenheim’s progress. In 2000 they finished first place in the fifth tier and immediately earned promotion to the third tier in 2001.

So, 62 years after playing their first match Hoffenheim finally ed the professional ranks. They started the 2007-08 season slowly but went on a run. Climbing up to the second place, Hoffenheim earned promotion to the Bundesliga on their first attempt.
Their first season in the Bundesliga was successful as they finished in a respectable seventh place. Vedad Ibisevic and Demba Ba were standout performers as they scored 32 combined goals. For the next three seasons, TSG finished in 11th place.
The most significant achievements in the TSG Hoffenheim team stats came in the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Ahead of the 2016-17 season, Julian Nagelsmann took over as head coach. With fourth and third place finishes, respectively, they qualified for the Champions League in consecutive seasons under Nagelsmann.
In 2017 Hoffenheim fell to Liverpool in the Champions League playoff round. One year later, they made the group stage for the first time but failed to win a match. In the 2020-21 Europa League, Hoffenheim finished on top of their group and qualified for the round of 32. There, they fell to Molde 5-3 over two legs.
In the 2021-22 season, Hoffenheim finished mid-table, in ninth place. Conventional betting advice suggests they could find themselves in the middle of the pack again. The Bundesliga odds price Hoffenheim at +500 odds to make the top four for the first time since 2018.
