NFL Preseason Week 2 Odds
Starting to Mean More...

The second week of NFL preseason games is here and the starters should see a bit more playing time for most teams. The big stars are likely to be held out almost the entire preseason. There’s no need to risk an injury in a meaningless game. Veterans can get themselves ready for the season in practice. As was the case in Week 1, there are a number of road favorites this week. The NFL preseason Week 2 odds have seven visiting teams favored.
Both Cleveland lost to Washington by a 17-15 score. Deshaun Watson didn’t look bad in the one series he played. But he’s unlikely to play here after having t practices with the Eagles during the week.
If Jalen Hurts plays it likely won’t be for long. The Eagles are paying him too much money to be playing in preseason games for very long. The total is low, but it looks to be the way to go in this spot.
The Carolina Panthers looked dismal in their preseason opener, losing 27-0 to the Jets. Now, they’ll try their hand against the other New York team and the results should be a little better. Bryce Young was under constant pressure and finished 4 of 6 for 21 yards.
The Giants rested most of their veteran starters last week, so they could get a bit of playing time this week. But it likely won’t be for too long. This is another game where the under might be worth a look.
The Cincinnati. The Falcons’ defense looked good in a 19-3 win over Miami, while the Bengals lost to Green Bay 36-19.
The Packers were favored by five points on the road, so it’s pretty clear by that line and this one the Bengals aren’t making much effort in the preseason. Atlanta had five sacks and three interceptions against the Miami backup quarterbacks. If you have to play this one, it’s hard to go against the Falcons.
The NFL preseason Week 2 odds have the Jacksonville Jaguars favored by 4 points on the road against the Detroit Lions. The Jaguars played quarterback Trevor Lawrence more than expected in the Week 1 win over the Cowboys.
It’s unclear how much he’ll play in this one, as coach Doug Pederson will wait and see how practice goes during the week before making up his mind. The Lions defeated New York in a game that featured primarily backups. Detroit quarterback Nate Sudfeld threw for 194 yards but was picked off twice. This one has a decent shot to land under the total.
Both of Miami’s quarterbacks were bad in the loss to Atlanta. The Dolphins are looking for Mike White or Skylar Thompson to separate themselves and become the No. 2 QB. But neither did much to help their case in the opener.
The Texans defeated New England 20-9, although it was a rough night for CJ Stroud. Stroud was 2 of 4 for 13 yards and an interception. Davis Mills isn’t much but he outplayed Stroud on the night. The Texans are probably the right side in this one.
The Bills improved to 13-5-1 in preseason under Sean McDermott when they defeated the Colts. The Steelers defeated Tampa Bay 27-17 in their preseason opener. Matt Barkley was solid for Buffalo in the opener, completing 14 of 15 es for two touchdowns.
Mason Rudolph played more than expected for the Steelers and looked good. It’s unclear if the Steelers will give him extended playing time in this one. It’s hard to go against Buffalo given McDermott’s preseason record.
Justin Fields led the Bears to a couple of early touchdowns in their victory over Tennessee, while the Colts lost to Buffalo in a game Anthony Richardson was outplayed by Gardner Minshew. There’s no question who Chicago’s quarterback is and he led the first unit to two touchdowns on their only two series of the game.
Indianapolis won’t be in a hurry to put Richardson out there before he’s ready, so Minshew should see more time this week. The Colts merit a look in this one.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers fell to the Steelers 27-17, as Baker Mayfield outplayed Kyle Trask in the battle for the starting quarterback job. Trask will get the start in this one, with Mayfield coming on in relief. The Jets will likely start Zach Wilson again and he was solid in the Jets’ victory over Carolina.
New York didn’t ask him to do a whole lot, but he did what he needed. Tampa Bay should get its starters some playing time in this spot and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Bucs take the win in this one.
The Week 1 preseason New England on the short end of a 20-9 decision to Houston. New England sat nearly all of its starters. Jordan Love played a fair amount for Green Bay and had a decent game in his two series.
Now, the question is if Green Bay will risk playing him any more in the preseason. Green Bay’s rookie backup Sean Clifford led four scoring drives and was 20 for 26 for 208 yards and a touchdown. New England should get some defensive regulars into the game, so scoring shouldn’t be easy.
Tennessee and Minnesota are doing some dual practices this week, so it’s doubtful many of the starters from either team will see much time. Coaches got to see their first unit players against the opposition during the week and typically look at the backups more in these situations.
Minnesota coach Kevin O’Connell is now 0-4 ATS in the preseason and there’s no real need for him to try and win this one. Malik Willis outplayed Will Levis in the preseason opener and the Titans may get them both more playing time, as they try to decide who the No. 2 quarterback is.
The NFL preseason Week 2 odds show Kansas City favored by 8 points at Arizona. The Chiefs let one get away last week, throwing a late interception that allowed New Orleans to kick a late field to win the game. The Cardinals looked good, especially on defense in their win over Denver.
This is the type of game that probably means a little more to Arizona than it does to Kansas City. But the Cardinals could be content after their last-second victory over the Broncos. Arizona could be the side to be on if you have to play the game.
The Broncos lost late to the Arizona Cardinals, while the 49ers put on a dismal display against Las Vegas. Denver played Russell Wilson quite a bit and he wasn’t bad, as Denver led 10-0 at Arizona at halftime. The Cardinals’ backups got the job done in the second half. Wilson was 7 for 13 with a touchdown .
The 49ers played Trey Lance the entire first half against the Raiders. The 34-7 Las Vegas victory was a bit misleading, as San Francisco outgained the Raiders. Las Vegas had second-half touchdown drives of 14 yards and 2 yards. It’s probably easier to make a case for San Francisco in this one than it is for Denver.
The Raiders cruised past San Francisco in their opener, as Aidan O’Connell had a strong game as he tries to win the backup job. Las Vegas wasn’t as dominating as the final score suggests, but the Raiders did a good job against the 49ers. The Rams also played a rookie quarterback quite a bit.
Stetson Bennett was 17 for 29 for 191 yards and a touchdown. The Rams did struggle to stop the run, as the Chargers ran for 214 yards. Both rookie QBs could see more playing time here, although the starters may take a few snaps. The Rams should give a better effort in this one.
Drew Lock played into the fourth quarter in Seattle’s opening week victory over Minnesota. Locke completed 17 of 24 es for 191 yards and two touchdowns. Dallas didn’t play all that bad in the loss to Jacksonville, with Cooper Rush and Will Grier splitting time at quarterback.
Deuce Vaughn looked decent at running back for Dallas. Seattle’s game against the Vikings was probably a little bit closer than the final score indicated, so the Cowboys could be the side to be on in this one.
The Saints were lucky to defeat Kansas City, while the Chargers cruised past the Rams on the strength of their ground game that gained 214 yards on 31 carries. The Saints took a 17-7 halftime lead against Kansas City behind Derek Carr and Jameis Winston, but Kansas City stormed back to take a 24-17 lead.
A New Orleans touchdown made it 24-23, but Chris Oladokun was intercepted with a minute to go and New Orleans kicked the game-winning field goal. New Orleans has the better quarterback rotation. This is one of the tougher games of the week to get a read on.
The NFL preseason Week 2 odds have the Ravens favored by 3.5 points at Washington in the final game of the week. The Ravens are coming off a rare preseason non-cover against Philadelphia, while the Commanders won at Cleveland.
Philadelphia dominated the stats against Baltimore, but it took a fourth-quarter interception return for a touchdown to get the point spread cover. Washington was outplayed by Cleveland but managed to come away with the victory. The Ravens are hard to go against considering John Harbaugh’s 38-17-1 ATS record in preseason games.
