Celtics vs Grizzlies Betting Odds: Memphis Defends Home as Underdogs

Is There a Dog in These Grizzlies?

Titanic forces collide when the Boston Celtics of the East visit the Memphis Grizzlies of the West. These title contenders have combined for a 13-6 record with both sitting at third in their respective conferences. The Celtics vs Grizzlies betting odds favor the visitors by 3.5 points on the spread. This will only be Memphis’s second time as an underdog and the first time as a host this season.

Celtics are Grizzly Hunters

Not many people can claim to be prolific grizzly bear hunters. But the Boston Celtics are one, at least on the basketball court. Boston is 9-1 in its last 10 games against Memphis. The Celtics have won and covered five of the last six games in the FedEx Forum so the team is at home here.

NBA season.

Tatum also holds some lofty stats against the Grizzlies. In nine career games against them, Tatum has a 539/564/958 shooting line while averaging 18.8 points in under 30 minutes. His three-point percentage, which is unsustainable, is his highest against a particular opponent in his career.

But it’s not all on Tatum. Malcolm Brogdon is quickly paying dividends as the newest Celtic. The former Pacer also has a case to be this year’s Sixth Man of the Year as he is averaging 14.9 points and 3.8 assists off the bench.

“As the days go on, he’s just getting more and more comfortable in the system and being who we need him to be,” Tatum said as seen on NBC Sports Boston. “Obviously any time you go to a new team I guess you try to find yourself and try to fit in. I think more and more each game he’s being the NBA player that he’s always been.”

Tatum and Brogdon are sharp NBA betting predictions to be finalists in their respective awards if they keep it up.

Grizzlies Rolling Despite Being Short-Handed

Ten games into the season, Memphis is doing just fine without starting power forward Jaren Jackson Jr. The team is where it’s supposed to be on the NBA standings. The 23-year-old is still recovering from foot surgery and is not expected back until later this month at the earliest.

“His conditioning is picking up, they’re pushing him hard, we’re putting him through a lot of drills,” Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins said. “He’s been pretty locked in progressing pretty well.”

Jackson led the team and the league in blocked shots last season. He got some Defensive Player of the Year votes and also finished fourth on the team in basketball scoring with 16.3 points. As an elite “3-and-D” player, Jackson’s place on the team is invaluable. His absence contributes to Memphis being an underdog on the Celtics vs Grizzlies betting odds on Monday.

Still, Memphis may be a tantalizing NBA team to bet on online at their money line price tag of +140. Last season, Memphis went 9-4 straight-up as an underdog at home (10-3-0 against the spread (ATS)). To do that, Memphis will have to overcome Boston and have a rest disadvantage.

Memphis Grizzlies are just 7-8 and 8-7-0 ATS when playing on the second night of a back-to-back. But the team is young with most of its best players being 25 and under in age. Fatigue should not be as significant of an issue as older teams.

Memphis will have to dig deep for its offense as the team sees a significant drop-off on games without rest. In 14 games last season, Memphis’s scoring average dropped to 111.1 a game compared to 115.6 with the standard one day’s rest. It’s a tough ask but if Memphis can stay as prolific as a rested team, it can upset the odds.
