Unrest in PSG Camp Ahead of Cup Final

Coupe de Final: Lyon vs PSG Betting Preview

Lyon’s Incredible Turnaround Continues

If Luis Enrique recalls him, Kylian Mbappe will play his last match for Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday ahead of a likely move to Real Madrid.

PSG’s all-time leading goalscorer could help the Parisians win their record 15th Coupe de trophy as they take on Lyon in the Final. However, it is possible that Enrique leaves out Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele for a third straight game.

Meanwhile Lyon, bottom of Ligue 1 in December 2023, went on a tear in the second half of the season and managed to finish in sixth place.

With four straight wins, Lyon ended the season with the league’s longest streak. As Lyon look to spoil PSG’s domestic double hopes, we’ll take a look at the Ligue 1 odds, team news and trends in our Lyon vs PSG betting preview.

Lyon vs PSG Head-to-Head

This is the third opportunity for Lyon vs PSG betting this season. PSG defeated Lyon 4-1 both home and away and Mbappe scored twice in the match he played in. PSG have been victorious in the last six meetings with Lyon in cup competitions. OL did manage to defeat PSG at the Parc des Princes in April 2023 but OL have won just two of the last 12 head-to-head Ligue 1 matchups.

Lyon: A Different Beast Under Sage

Lyon failed to win their first 10 matches of the Ligue 1 season. OL cycled through coaches Laurent Blanc and Fabio Grosso before appointing youth coach Pierre Sage as manager on November 30th. Since then, Lyon have been one of the best teams in Europe.

After losing his first two matches in charge, Sage’s Lyon have gone 19-2-4, in all competitions. Europa League.

Alexandre Lacazette’s dramatic stoppage time penalty booked Lyon’s place in Europe as they defeated Strasbourg 2-1 last Sunday.

Lacazette scored both of Lyon’s goals in the match and he was superb again this season, with 19 goals. No other Lyon player reached five league goals this season. Maxence Caqueret has been Lyon’s ironman this season, as the defensive midfielder is the only player to start all 39 matches, in all competitions.

Sage has worked wonders in his short time at Lyon and one could argue that Lyon have been better than PSG over the last few months.

OL head into this match on a four game winning streak and their morale hasn’t been higher for quite some time. No Lyon players are currently listed as injured for Saturday’s Coupe de Final.

Mbappe, Dembele Conspicuously Absent for PSG

With three games to go, Paris Saint-Germain clinched the 2023-24 Ligue 1 title. The PSG standings show they finished nine points ahead of second-placed Monaco to win a record extending 12th Ligue 1 crown.

However, since their final home game of the season, Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele have been out of the squad. With Mbappe leaving in the Summer, it’s possible he has already played his last match for PSG.

The same goes for Ousmane Dembele, who coach Luis Enrique is reportedly frustrated with after his performance in the Champions League Semifinal loss to Borussia Dortmund. Mbappe and Dembele were spotted partying at the Cannes Film Festival while PSG defeated Metz 2-0 on Sunday and that could mean both don’t feature on Saturday.

Carlos Soler and Lee Kang-in were PSG’s scorers on the final day. Enrique rested Achraf Hakimi, Fabian Ruiz, Vitinha, Warren Zaire-Emery and Bradley Barcola ahead of the Coupe de final and they should all feature on Sunday.

Vitinha has been growing in stature at the club and the Portuguese midfielder scored seven goals and provided four assists in Ligue 1. If Mbappe and Dembele don’t play, the frontline could consist of Barcola, Goncalo Ramos and Lee Kang-in or Marco Asensio.

Lyon vs PSG Match Analysis & Odds

In a match between two of the most successful clubs in ’s soccer history, PSG are -170 favorites. Bettors should stay on top of updates about Mbappe and Dembele.

Their absences would give Lyon a better chance to come away with a first Coupe de trophy since 2012. Meanwhile, PSG have won six of the last nine titles and are 6-1 in their last seven appearances in the Final.

The Lyon vs PSG betting odds also list Lyon as +395 underdogs. Also, a draw sits at +325 odds for Saturday’s match as extra time would follow. PSG are responsible for Lyon’s last loss, which was last month, and neither Mbappe nor Dembele played in that one. So, PSG are certainly favorites either way.

Lyon +1 does come in at -120 odds, though, while PSG -1 is priced at -110. Currently, under three goals are at -125 but both meetings finished with five goals this season. If Sage switches up Lyon’s gameplan to a more defensive one, the pace of the game could be a lot slower than anticipated.
